“The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again, since it is life.”
William Faulkner

Artists have the extraordinary opportunity to express their emotions and thoughts in a tangible, visual form. I am grateful to be part of a creative community that values beauty, skill, originality, flexibility and subtlety.

As a printmaker, my favorite time in the studio is the moment when the paper is peeled back from the plate, and I find out what I have captured. One of the wonders of this process is that even when I think I know what to expect, the results can surprise me.

Sources of inspiration include artists such as Rembrandt, Matisse, Gauguin, O’Keeffe, Botticelli, Da Vinci, Cartier-Bresson, Avedon and many others. I also get excited about ballet dancers, wild animals, sea creatures, fashion models, foreign coins, Chinese cigarette wrappers, and African textiles.

My artwork is in the permanent collections of The National September 11 Memorial and Museum, the Library of Congress, the New-York Historical Society, the New York Public Library and the Africana Studies and Research Center at Cornell University.
